How Planning my Groceries Saved Me $73 My First Week

By Anne 11 Comments

I'm jumping in with two feet for a grocery budget makeover. Planning my groceries saved me $73 my first week. Can you reach that? I bet you can! Click for ideas on how to do it too!

You may have noticed a bit of a trend ’round these parts as of late: Food. I love food. Unfortunately, it can get wildly pricey.  While I have only written about the cost of food a few times, I have been putting a lot of mental effort toward thinking about food and the cost of groceries. […]

Here’s What Happened When I Skipped Buying Groceries, Repeatedly

By Anne 47 Comments

What would happen if you SKIPPED buying groceries? Find out what happened to me!

I normally come up with a rather rough meal plan on Sunday and then go grocery shopping.  I usually pick four meals for the week and the rest of the time we use what’s leftover, things happen to change up our food needs, or we make do with what’s on hand.  There’s often a dinner […]

My Car Tune Up Frugal Fail

My Car Tune-Up Frugal Fail

As you may know, if you follow me on twitter (all the cool kids are doing it), I live in a small town. It has its pros and cons, which I know I will write about one day. One of the cons is that some services are far, far away. We bought a diesel Jetta […]

I often hear that healthy eating “takes too much time” or “costs to much money,” which, with some planning and forethought, does not have to be the case.  You can read my tongue-in-cheek explanation of our extremely high grocery bills for some ideas on how to keep your own costs in line. At the end […]

By Anne 56 Comments

I am an expert in how to spend an obscene amount on groceries. Read on to find out how it is possible to blow money on food, and DON'T DO WHAT I DO!

Quite recently, J. Money, of Budgets are Sexy fame, featured an absolutely hysterical email/guest post entitled How in GOD’s NAME do you spend so little on food?? written by a fellow named Braden.  I need you to go read it, immediately. Don’t worry, I’ll wait for you to come back.  I have already re-read it at least […]

4 Ways to Save Money at Whole Foods

4 Ways to Save at Whole Foods

Whole Foods is a wonderful store filled with a variety of delicious, fresh foods of all sorts. But that variety comes at a high cost– at least it may seem that way at first. The prices of certain items in Whole Foods can be staggering. With ostrich eggs for $39.99 and some bottles of […]

My Cookbook Wish List

By Anne 7 Comments

One can never, ever have enough cookbooks! Here is my cookbook wish list and the ones that I think should be on your cookbook wish list, too!

My spouse and I disagree about whether or not we should own more cookbooks. Clearly, we should. One can really never have enough. Naturally, you will never cook everything in a cookbook (my cousin did, once, you can read about it at My Year with Jamie Oliver). That said, you shouldn’t wait until you cook every […]

Don’t Throw That Away, I’ll Eat It!

By Anne 6 Comments

It astounds me how many people will throw away leftovers at restaurants. Don't throw that away, I'll eat it! Here's a particularly crazy example of wastefulness averted.

Most of the time, I think that I have pretty normal behaviours when it comes to surface level food and money things. I go out to restaurants, I buy a mix of things that are on sale and aren’t, I throw (way too much, unfortunately) food out because it goes bad, etc. When I’m at […]

The Bottom

You made it all the way to the bottom! Thanks so much for reading.
Did you know that The Bottom is the name of a town on the island of Saba, in the Caribbean? I went there on a trip once.
The other bottoms I think about are my own bottom, and the bottom of the champagne bottle. Often when I find the bottom of the champagne bottle, my own bottom grows. Funny, that.

Thanks for reading!
