My To-Do List that Keeps Getting Postponed

My To-Do List that Keeps Getting Postponed

You know the projects that I mean, the section of the to-do list that keeps getting postponed, forever and ever. Lots of bloggers post monthly or yearly goals and report back on how they’ve done and what sort of progress they’ve made.  I’m not going to do that, because frankly, more important things may come up again, as they always seem to do.  Plus, we know that I am lazy. Perhaps a year from now I will be able to update this and have some things ticked off of this list!

In the meantime, though, I am going to post a few of my to-eventually dos, baring them to the world, in a halfhearted attempt to see if that will motivate me to actually deal with any of them.  Here goes!

Fix or Replace the Bathroom Cabinet Door

I built the cabinet that goes above the toilet in the bathroom. When I build it, I was cheap. I bought these brutally strong hinges with springs in them, because they cost maybe $10 for four, instead of $8 each. Well, they were strong enough that the pressure caused the centre panel of one of the doors to come out.  It’s been sitting on the floor for a length of time that I don’t want to admit. I need to either fix the door with some lathe to make it stronger, or build new doors entirely (an excuse to buy myself a dado router bit and table, perhaps? drooool).

Sort Through the Filing Cabinet

I have a growing, but exploding mess on top of the filing cabinet, that really needs to be filed.  However, I keep putting that off because I need to clear out the filing cabinet. For example, our health benefit receipts are only auditable for 12 months. I have 4 years of them, in a gigantic jumble in a file folder. They’re not 100% sorted by year, so I need to go through all of them and shred them, to clean up the filing cabinet. I also know that there’s owner’s manuals for appliances we no longer own, outdated booklets on what our benefits cover, a copy of an offer we put in on a house five years ago, etc etc. It needs a big, big purge.

Finish Clearing Out the Storage Locker

Early in the spring, we took a run at sorting through the storage locker (which is very large).  We made it about half way around the room, but never finished. There are a few boxes in the corner to be recycled, still sitting there from the purge. Plus, there’s half the room to go, and an assortment of things that need to be relabeled and things that need to no longer be ours. Some of our gear needs better storage solutions, like the snowshoes that we bought this winter, that are sitting on the shelf where the box of biking gear goes.  Come fall when it’s neither biking nor snowshoeing season, we’re going to have a problem.

Make the Wedding Photo Albums

This is one that my spouse keeps bugging me about. We own the albums already (they’re gorgeous leather ones), we have discs worth of photos, I recently purchased backing paper, all we need to do is finish sorting through the electronic pictures, get them printed and have me sit down and actually make the albums. There are three to do, two to go to our parents, and a big one for us. Let’s not talk about the part where we’ve been married for three years, okay? We already have smaller Blurb albums, that half of the family has, but not the actual, physical, photo albums.

As you can see, the bulk of these aren’t truly overpowering to-dos, but they all require some time, and in most cases, time that’s spread out over several days. If I had one super-productive weekend, I could knock out almost all of them. However, things like sunshine, giant piles of laundry and road trips are quite an impediment to getting them done.

What’s on your to-do list that keeps getting postponed?

Ah to-do lists! They never end! For me right now it’s finishing this wordspress course. But I kind of need a big chunk of time and that’s been hard to come by lately!

I use Evernote to keep tabs on my todos and its a long list but I realize if I’m not doing it now I don’t even stress about it at all. I do make a yearly goal list of 10 things in January I’d like to accomplish in the year. I review it periodically but those are mostly things related to lifestyle choices, bucket lists, etc. At the end of the year between Christmas and New Years I look at what I’ve accomplished and decide if the things I didn’t is still of interest.

I have a ridiculous number of things on my to do list that keep getting postponed. They primarily revolve around business ides and things I need to do for my side hustles. Some have been on there for over a year…

You know you can do some of the those things, while your “giant pile of laundry” is in the washer or dryer. Lol. Just sayin’:P

Where do I even begin?!?! I think when you have a house, especially a house that is not updated, the to-do list can last you almost a lifetime. I am hoping to get the upstairs hallway painted by the end of this month.

I used to have a HUGE HUGE list. Then one year, I listed all my postponed projects and finally got it done. It was also the same year which I finally applied for grad school – another “project” which I was putting off. Now, I’m going to do my CAPM. Ugh.

I bought a picture frame over two months ago that is specially for several of our wedding photos. It’s been hanging on the wall with pictures of strange people and puppies staring back at me. I just need to get the wedding pics printed at Target for goodness sake…and I’ve gone there so many times and left without getting it done 🙁

We just dug into our basement last week…it was really getting piled up with stuff. Been putting that one off for months. It’s real easy to put things off when a) you dread it and b) more important issues always come up.

Good for you! Spaces like basements breed stuff, I’m absolutely sure of it.

I have had clean the basement, it’s more like a cellar, on my to do list for over a year. I hate our creepy old basement and spending long periods of time down there to sort and reorganize does not rank high on my list.

I’ve got a similar list. I’m hoping when the weather turns colder I can tackle my paperwork at the dining room table with the radio on. Take a Saturday and see if I can get it done, start to finish, with lots of coffee and then switch to wine at about 3:30-4 o’clock. 😉

I was just thinking about my to-do/goals list I made at New Year’s (and of course stupidly posted out into cyberspace). I think in a way, you realize HOW important things are once you list them. I mean, the things I really cared about, I’ve been working on…. some other things fell to the back burner (what can I say, macarons? You’re just not a priority these days).

I have a small paper pile that I have been working on-it makes me crazy! It used to be a HUGE paper pile because I kept putting it off. In fact, I kept putting off a number of things. So, I had to start working on those projects. I feel a lot better now that I’ve started to tackle everything. I also need to: put wood floors down in my bedroom, fix my bedroom windows, and redo the shower floor (and caulk it) those cost money so the procrastination is legit.

LOL “to-eventually-dos” cracked me up. I recently went through all our scattered paperwork and filed and labeled everything. I love to organize, but that was pretty tedious. It feels good to have that done!

    Good luck!

I have a light fixture that is slightly off it’s mount in a bathroom, and a light stopped working (not just a burnt out bulb) in my mechanical room……they just seem to keep sitting at the bottom of my todo list. 🙂 I saw a great facebook meme recently – “If you tell a man to fix something, he’ll do it. There’s no need to pester him about it every 6 months.”

The Bottom

You made it all the way to the bottom! Thanks so much for reading.
Did you know that The Bottom is the name of a town on the island of Saba, in the Caribbean? I went there on a trip once.
The other bottoms I think about are my own bottom, and the bottom of the champagne bottle. Often when I find the bottom of the champagne bottle, my own bottom grows. Funny, that.

Thanks for reading!
